Escape vs. RAV4

ESCAPE VS. THE COMPETITION

Technology

Escape can match all of the RAV4 high-tech features PLUS features not available on any RAV4, including:

  • Enhanced Active Park Assist
  • SecuriCode invisible keypad
  • Forward Sensing System
  • Easy Fuel capless fuel filler

The RAV4 is stated to come with the following:

  • Hands-free power liftgate
  • Entune 3.0
  • Apple Carplay
  • Push button start
  • Dual-zone temperature control

Performance

Escape offers three engine choices — two of which are EcoBoost engines — compared to just one choice with RAV4:

  • 1.5L EcoBoost I-4 with 179 horsepower and 177 lb.-ft. of torque
  • 2.0L EcoBoost I-4:
  • More horsepower — with 245 horsepower or an additional 42 horsepower over RAV4
  • More torque — with 275 lb.-ft. or an additional 91 lb.-ft. of torque over RAV4
  • 2.5L i-VCT I-4 with 168 horsepower

PLUS, Escape, equipped with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine and Class II Trailer Tow Package, has 3500 lbs. of towing capacity or an additional 2000 lbs. of capacity over RAV4 LE, XLE, XLE Premium and Limited. Only the RAV4 Adventure model has a 3500-lb. max. tow rating.

Toyota touts the 4-cylinder engine in RAV4 offering:

  • 203 horsepower
  • 184 lb.-ft torque
  • Max. towing capacity of 1,500 lbs on all but the RAV4 adventure model
  • 3,500 lbs of towing capacity is offered only on the RAV4 Adventure model

Parking Assistance

  • The Escape Enhanced Active Park Assist senses an appropriately sized parallel or reverse perpendicular parking space, then steers Escape into that space. All the driver has to do is control the gear shifter, accelerator and brake pedals
  • The RAV4 system is not automatic and requires the driver to watch an in-vehicle screen while controlling the steering, brakes and gas at the same time

Toyota promotes the RAV4’s available Bird’s Eye View Camera, which helps the driver:

  • See nearby objects around the vehicle
  • Get in and out of small places with ease
